Scottish Independent Brewing has seen a vast increase in demand for their products, both at home and in the rest of the UK. Scotland has between 45 to 50 craft breweries. Indeed, in the past year eight new breweries have opened, including the likes of West Brewery in Glasgow: a brewery-pub specialising in authentic German beers using specially imported ingredients, and high tech German brewing equipment.

Islay Ales started brewing in 2004, and now supplies their wide selection of bottled ales all over the UK, and exports as far a field as Japan and the United States.

Highland entrepreneur, Norman Sinclair of Sinclair Breweries was winner of Best Standard Lager at the International Beer Challenge 2006 with his Latitude Highland Pilsner.

Demand for artisan and chemical free products are making this an exciting time for small Scottish independent brewers, for which the future is amber!
